What Will Life Be Like in the Year 2008? (Nov, 1968)
The 2008 story was an interesting predict of future. Now is 2008, the prediction in the story has been partially realized. flat TV, e-book, internet are very common in the modern society. Average miles travelled per capita is over 3000 miles each year. People make video conference easily. Telecommunication is trivial even people in remote area of Nepal hold a mobile to talk with each other. Modern communication technology transformed the world into a new era. However, modern society faces environmental problems, such as global warming, polluted air, new unknown diseases. Modern society is not a heaven. DNA technology, Bioengineering become the next possible boost of human being living standard. With the aid of extremely high computational power, DNA researches move up to another level.
In another 40 years time, the world may become full of new bioengineered stuffs. Bio-computer, DNA treatment may be trivial then and people may renew their organs, body parts whenever it is necessary. Live span may extend to over 200 or even more. People die only when they over a certain statutory accepted age. Solar and fusion become the major source of energy. With the virtually unlimited energy, manufacturing machines, transportation vecihles, entertainments all in services on 24 hours time 7 day basis. Day and night is no longer a nature cycle for human being. Every kind of human production are in shift including all kind of industries such as agricultural, manufacturing, professional services, etc, etc. Labour shortage only hear as a bar joke and 90% of land on earth are occupied by human being. Undergraduate Education is not conduct in school because all parents are already well educated and able to conduct all fundamental training to their offspring. Most important of all, parents are having sufficient time to conduct education because average people working hours is 4 hours per day 3 days per week. Children learn mother tongue, English, Mandarin and French as a standard communication tools. Moral education and self discipline training is another major subject for children because entertainment and bad stuffs are too easily accessible.
